Consider the style and size of the deck that you want
When deciding on the style of your deck, think about what kind of atmosphere you want to create. Do you want a cozy spot for intimate gatherings or ample space for hosting parties? The style of your deck should complement the style of your home, so consider that as well.
As for size, again, it's all about finding the right balance between what you need and what you can afford. Stay caught up in square footage - a well-designed small deck can be just as functional and inviting as a larger one.
Select which layout will work for your space.
When planning your deck, selecting a layout that will work for your space is crucial. The most common designs are square or rectangular, but you can also find decks in various shapes.
A square or rectangular layout is likely the best option if you have a small space. Consider a more complex layout if you have a larger area. Once you've selected a layout, you can begin planning your deck's dimensions.
No matter what layout you select, plan carefully and leave plenty of room for furniture, planting areas, and walking paths. With some planning, you can create the perfect deck for your home on any budget.
Determine which material you want to use

When it comes to building a deck, there are many different materials you can choose from. The most popular options are wood and composite. Wood is a classic material used for centuries, while composite is a newer option made from recycled plastic and wood fibers.
It is essential to do your research before deciding which one is right for you. Wood decks are typically more affordable than composite decks, but they require more upkeep and can be susceptible to damage from weather and insects. Composite decks are less maintenance than wood decks, but they can be more expensive.
Ultimately, deciding which material to use for your deck depends on your budget and personal preferences. If you're looking for a low-maintenance option that doesn't break the bank, wood may be the way to go. But if you are okay with spending a bit more upfront, the composite could be your best choice.
